Troop 486 Eagle Roll

"What being an Eagle Scout means to me…  When I crossed into Boy Scouts I was just a munchkin 5th grader not knowing what I was doing or why. I was just along for the ride. Scouts, then, didn’t mean much to me. But now, I’m a munchkin 12th grader but with a lot more direction in my life and a lot more pride in the things I do.  Scouting has helped make me who I am today.

Being an Eagle Scout does have its advantages without a doubt. It looks good on college resumes and jobs, hugs are rewarded among grandmas and relatives, and even your college brother looks up to you. But most of all for the rest of your life you can tell your kids, grandkids, and great grand kids that you are an Eagle Scout. You were capable of toughing out the Oklahoma hike, toughing out the homesick summer camps and toughing out the constantly nagging parents. And the whole world will look up to you and respect you for it.

This is all part of an Eagle Scout’s responsibilities. Enormous pressure comes with such an honor. An Eagle Scout should be knowledgeable and have leadership in the workplace and community. He should be the one that stands out the most in a crowd. It is the Eagle Scout’s responsibility to always live up to the Boy Scout Oath and Law; which at times can be difficult to do. To always be helpful and obedient even out of my uniform.

But that’s why it is so important to me. Because I can say that I must live up to the Oath and Law, and I can be looked up to. I am a symbol of Scouting."
